Language Barriers

lead to delayed care and adverse events.

Access to mental health care should not depend on language. Yet many people face difficulty finding accurate, culturally relevant information in their language. As a result, symptoms may go unrecognized, minimized, or misunderstood - leading to delayed support and disparities in care.

Language Barriers

Low Mental Health Literacy

results from limited access to information.

When information about mental health is found primarily in English, people who speak other languages may struggle to understand diagnoses, navigate healthcare, or understand treatment conditions systems.

Mental Health Stigma

Mental Health Stigma

can become stronger if resources aren't available in all languages.

If mental health materials aren't translated or culturally adapted, people cannot access information to challenge harmful myths or misunderstandings.

Your Action Plan

FOUND IN TRANSLATION

We want everyone to understand mental health — no matter what language they speak. Here's how you can help.

Make mental health resources available in languages other than English so everyone can access the care they need.

See a mental health document that isn't in your language? Submit a request so we can make it available.
